The Wounded Ones

Day is done,
   And gone the sun,
From the lake, and hill and sky...
   But for one
An ache, it lingers still,
   And moistened too, an eye...

ord, dry the tear
   Of the widowed one who weeps;
Speak comfort unto her ear
   And to her heart, that ever keeps
The love and loss from time before,
   Of one who suffered, the wound of war.

She felt that wound,
   It scarred her heart;
And all too soon,
   Did her soldier part...

Send solace down, like a dove,
   To alight softly from above.

Several of the opening lines, restate a version of the words that go with taps.
