Summer Snow

Like flakes, there fallen and white,
Of out-of-season snow;
I see flower'd, Queen Anne's lace,
Its crystals, by roads I go.

Its patterns of snowy lace
Are crocheted in summertime;
Its petals the roadsides grace,
When the sun with warmth does climb.

In the ditch along the way,
With green along with brown,
Is a patch in white array,
Where it's really coming down.

The snow of a summer day,
That doesn't just melt away.                    John Riedell
