Something to the Moon Akin

We see the moon as it rises up the sky,
And journeys across the ocean of space;
It shines not its own, as it's passing by;
It reflects the sun upon its lunar face.

And in the heavens, it illumines the night,
With its lustre, from lumens of borrowed light.

We journey on earth with others of our race,
In need of grace to shine, from the Light of the World;
We're made by God to rise to a holy place:
To go through the gates of heaven there pearled,
Our souls illumined, sanctified in grace.

We're something to the moon akin;
What we shine, with us did not begin.     John Riedell
